Algiers: The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Tuesday emphasized that the official visit of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Algeria reflects a mutual desire to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
According to Algeria Press Service, in a joint press statement following their discussions at the Presidential Palace, President Tebboune welcomed the Somali leader and his accompanying delegation. He noted that the visit, being the second of its kind, underscores a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation and exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
President Tebboune highlighted discussions with his Somali counterpart regarding potential collaboration in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, fisheries, pharmaceuticals, and higher education.
Regarding higher education, President Tebboune announced plans for Algeria to welcome 110 Somali students for training during the 2026-2027 academic year. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to expand this initiative by offering additional scholarships in vocational, police, and defense training.
