Algiers: President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud praised Algeria’s role in promoting peace, justice, and African solidarity during a visit to the country. In a joint statement with President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, following bilateral talks held at the Presidential Palace, the Somali President expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s historical leadership and solidarity within Africa and the Arab world.
According to Algeria Press Service, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud emphasized the strong spirit of fraternity and shared determination that marked his discussions with President Tebboune. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the historical bonds between their countries, aiming to build a partnership based on mutual benefit and respect. The discussions covered key areas of cooperation such as trade, investment, education, defense, security, agriculture, and human capacity development.
The two presidents agreed to collaboratively promote regional s
tability, strengthen economic integration, and advance broader objectives of the African Union, specifically the AU Agenda 2063 and Somalia’s Vision 2060. President Mohamud also highlighted their agreement to support the establishment of a Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital within the 1967 borders, and the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya, Sudan, and Western Sahara.
Algeria’s role in supporting Somalia’s state-building and peace consolidation efforts was highly commended by President Mohamud, who recalled Algeria’s honorable position alongside Somalia during challenging times. He announced that a set of important agreements had been signed to lay a new foundation for enhanced collaboration, reflecting a shared desire to transform their long-standing friendship into practical and structured cooperation.
The agreements are expected to benefit both nations and contribute to the development of their region and the African continent. A joint ministe
rial committee will be established to implement the agreements and explore new areas of collaboration.
