President Tebboune Inaugurates ‘Fouka 2’ Seawater Desalination Plant in Tipaza

Tipaza: The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, inaugurated on Saturday, in Fouka (Province of Tipaza), ‘Fouka 2′ seawater desalination plant, with a capacity of 300,000 m³/day.

According to Algeria Press Service, the inauguration ceremony of this strategic project was attended by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (PNA), General Saïd Chanegriha, the Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Brahim Merad, the Minister of Water Resources, Taha Derbal, as well as executives from national companies in charge of construction.

In this respect, the President of the Republic listened to a presentation on the progress of work and construction phases of this vital project, which covers an area of 7.15 hectares.

With a production capacity of 300,000 m³/day, this new plant will ensure drinking water supply for 3 million inhabitants
of the provinces of Algiers, Tipaza and Blida.

This ambitious project is part of the national program decided by the President of the Republic which includes the construction of five desalination plants in the provinces of El Tarf (Koudiet Draouch), Bejaïa (Tighremt-Toudja), Boumerdes (Cap Djinet), Tipaza (Fouka) and Oran (Cap Blanc), with a capacity of 300,000 m³/day, and with an investment of around $2.4 billion.

These projects aim to ensure water security and secure the citizens’ needs for drinking water.

This national program, based on national competencies and cutting-edge technologies, reflects the great progress made by Algeria in strengthening water security.
