Rabat: Morocco is an important partner for Central American countries, affirmed the Panamanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Javier Martnez-Acha V¡squez, praising the new momentum in the relations between his country and the Kingdom.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, V¡squez highlighted Morocco’s role as a member with observer status in both the Central American Regional Integration System (SICA) and the Central American Parliament, underscoring its significance to the region. He praised Moroccan diplomacy under His Majesty King Mohammed VI, describing it as a model of commitment to dialogue for conflict resolution.
V¡squez emphasized that strengthening bilateral relations will position Panama as a bridge enhancing Morocco’s openness to Central America and Morocco as a gateway for Panama to the Mediterranean region. He also reiterated Panama’s support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative regarding the Moroccan Sahara, noting its endorsement by major powers such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain.
Moreover, V¡squez stressed that enhanced political relations between Morocco and Panama could further boost economic and trade ties, as well as sectoral cooperation in fields like investment, commerce, security, and industry. He acknowledged Morocco’s expertise in water resource management, expressing admiration for the Kingdom’s 67-kilometer water highway and suggesting that Panama could replicate such an initiative.
The Panamanian Minister also highlighted the potential benefits of intensifying the exchange of experiences across sectors, leveraging Morocco’s infrastructure achievements in rail transport, port infrastructure, and gas pipelines. He noted that the Royal Atlantic Initiative, launched by King Mohammed VI, could enhance trade with Sahel countries, benefiting Panama’s strategic canal.
V¡squez further mentioned Panama’s plans to bolster the canal’s logistics infrastructure by constructing two new ports, which would reinforce maritime routes and open new markets. This initiative aligns with the dynamic relations between Morocco and Panama, offering opportunities for new exporters and importers.
