Agadir: A ceremony was held on Thursday at the headquarters of the South Zone General Staff in Agadir, in honor of the representatives of the countries participating in the “African Lion 2025” exercise, held on the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, FAR Inspector General and Commander of the South Zone, emphasized that the ‘African Lion’ Exercise highlights the maturity of military cooperation between Morocco and the United States of America. He noted that these maneuvers reflect a shared commitment to security and peace principles, aiming to unify concepts amid current international changes.
Morocco, under the High Royal Instructions, places significant importance on maintaining peace and stability in Africa through strengthening the South-South partnership. This commitment is demonstrated through the participation of several African Armies’ executives in ‘African Lion’ and the ongoing support for training sessions organized in military institutes and schools under the FAR.
General Michael Langley, Commander of U.S. Africa Command ‘AFRICOM,’ remarked that the U.S. and Morocco are fostering a relationship grounded in military cooperation and shared interests. He described ‘African Lion’ as more than just an exercise, calling it the continent’s greatest military commitment.
The exercise brings together African countries, European partners, and global allies to witness troops working towards interoperability and effectiveness, enhancing cohesion on a global scale. ‘African Lion’ is a combined joint exercise organized annually by the FAR and the US Armed Forces.
Running until May 23, the exercise takes place in the regions of Agadir, Tan-Tan, Tiznit, Kenitra, Benguerir, and Tifnit. It aims to consolidate Moroccan-American military cooperation and strengthen exchanges among armed forces from different countries to promote regional security and stability.
