Casablanca: No«l, representing Amir Ben Yahmed, Chairman of the Jeune Afrique Media Group and CEO of AFIS, noted during a press conference launching AFIS 2025, the summit aims to serve as an annual platform where private sector decision-makers and regulators can meet in a relatively flexible format.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, AFIS was launched in 2021 by the Jeune Afrique Media Group and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The previous edition in 2024 demonstrated its effectiveness by bringing together 1,200 high-level participants. No«l highlighted the importance of macroeconomic topics, especially in the current context marked by significant tariff and macroeconomic shocks.
No«l also stressed the necessity of developing African financial sovereignty through the mobilization of local savings, pension funds, and capital markets via regional and intercontinental platforms, as opposed to national ones.
David Tinel, IFC’s regional representative for the Maghreb, emphasized Morocco’s strategic role in developing the African financial industry. He noted that the IFC views Morocco as a preferred platform for addressing financing challenges in value chains and transforming continental financial systems.
The decision to host AFIS 2025 in Casablanca underscores the international recognition of Morocco’s position within the African financial ecosystem, Tinel added.
