Spain Hosts Cultural Events Highlighting Morocco’s Violations in Western Sahara

Algiers: The Pérez Galdos Theatre in the Canary Islands is organizing cultural events to promote dialogue on the situation in Western Sahara, featuring the participation of activists, journalists, and film producers, with the aim of highlighting the ongoing human rights violations under Moroccan occupation.

According to Algeria Press Service, the event began on Tuesday and will run until Thursday, with the participation of Sahrawi activist Aminatou Haidar, activists Zekina Ndiaye and Najwa Jettri Adah, as well as directors Raquel Larosa and Lucia Munoz, percussionist Fadia Chen, and a number of guests involved in the Sahrawi cause.

The first session focuses on the life and struggle of Aminatou Haidar, who went on a 32-day hunger strike in protest against her arbitrary expulsion by the Moroccan occupation in 2009.

The documentary film “Aminatou” by director Lucia Munoz details this tragedy, emphasizing the extent of Morocco’s repression against Sahrawis seeking their right to self-determination.

Amintou
Haidar, a symbol of peaceful struggle and human rights, confirmed through her direct testimony the continuation of Morocco’s occupation policies aimed at repressing Sahrawi civil society and imposing severe restrictions on fundamental freedoms, in flagrant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.
