Algiers: President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has responded positively to a request from Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, seeking a pardon for Boualem Sansal, according to a communiqu© from the Presidency of the Republic released on Wednesday.
According to Algeria Press Service, President Tebboune received the request on November 10, 2025. The communiqu© highlighted that the request was made on behalf of the German President, a move that captured President Tebboune’s attention for its nature and humanitarian aspects.
The decision to grant the pardon was made in accordance with Article 91, Paragraph 8 of the Algerian Constitution, and followed the necessary legal consultations. President Tebboune’s response included an agreement for the German state to oversee the transportation and treatment of Boualem Sansal, reflecting a collaborative approach between the two nations.
