President Tebboune Chairs Council of Ministers Meeting on Draft Laws and Automotive Industry

Algiers: The President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers. The meeting was focused on examining two draft laws related to anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing measures, and the protection of personal data, as well as presentations on automotive industry projects.

According to Algeria Press Service, the Council of Ministers approved the two draft laws after discussions. The President emphasized Algeria’s commitment to establishing strict rules and control mechanisms to combat all forms of corruption and criminality, especially those related to financial matters and personal protection.

Regarding firefighting measures, the President ordered maximum vigilance due to expected temperature rises. He stressed extreme caution during harvest operations and called for mobilization and coordination of resources to prevent potential fires.

Concerning automotive manufacturing projects, President Tebboune praised sincere dealers working towards a true automotive industry and highlighted the importance of breaking away from the sector’s fraudulent past. He stated that vehicle construction and import approvals are exclusively the Council of Ministers’ responsibility.

The President insisted on involving qualified Algerian subcontracting companies in the automotive industry as a necessity. He also advocated for opening the sector to national industrial companies in automotive electricity and spare parts. The strategic goal is to establish a robust mechanical industry through current automotive construction projects, aiming for at least a 12% contribution to the GDP.
