Algiers: President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasized in a speech at the National Summit: ‘Youth and Political Participation,’ held at the International Conference Center in Algiers, that enhancing youth political involvement remains a key strategic priority and a significant aspect of the political and constitutional reforms initiated since 2019.
According to Algeria Press Service, the President’s speech, delivered by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, highlighted several initiatives aimed at promoting youth involvement in political processes. These initiatives focus on increasing the presence of young individuals in governmental institutions and consultative bodies, removing barriers that prevent their participation in political arenas, and renewing national and local assemblies to foster a new political elite.
The President also mentioned the establishment of the Higher Council for Youth (CSJ), a constitutional consultative body dedicated to addressing youth-related issues across various sectors. The creation of a ministry for Youth further supports these initiatives by focusing on the aspirations of the younger generation.
Progress in youth political engagement is termed ‘reassuring,’ yet President Tebboune stressed the need to continue efforts to develop a generation capable of actively participating in public affairs. This engagement is essential for shaping the future of Algeria.
The President called on state institutions to remain open to this momentum, including youth at every stage of public policy development and evaluation. This approach aims to make youth participation a driving force in effective communication with state institutions, contributing to a complementary relationship.
In his address, President Tebboune urged consultative bodies to enhance dialogue with youth representatives, particularly elected ones, to deepen discussions on national issues and challenges.
