United Arab Emirates Supports Morocco’s Autonomy Plan and Sovereignty

New york: Speaking before the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the Emirati representative emphasized that his country “renews its full support for the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco in its sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara and for the Autonomy initiative within the framework of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.”

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Moroccan Autonomy plan is deemed consistent with international law, the UN Charter, and the resolutions of both the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly. The Emirati diplomat expressed approval of the new development model for the Southern Provinces initiated by Morocco, which aims to improve the living conditions of local populations and has reportedly enhanced the human development index in the region.

The representative also acknowledged the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara, who are working towards finding a lasting solution to the regional dispute.
