UN warns of severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan as conflict escalates

Khartoum, Justin Brady, Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan, has warned that the images emerging from parts of Sudan evoke the worst scenes of any famine the UN has witnessed. He highlighted a range of concerns, including displacement, protection issues, and severe malnutrition among children. Brady outlined the challenges facing humanitarian workers in three key areas: access, resources, and sufficient attention. He confirmed that the situation is deteriorating in Al Fashir in North Darfur, North Khartoum, Madani, and around El Obeid. He also warned that the upcoming rainy season will complicate movement in many parts of the country. Brady referred to ongoing violence, conflict, and significant difficulties in reaching those in need, calling for sustained international pressure to ensure the protection of civilians and enable humanitarian relief efforts.
