New york: Speaking at a high-level ministerial event, organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in commemoration of the 1500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Sidna Mohammed, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly, Bourita said that this celebration, while it concerns the Muslim world in its entirety, has a particular importance for the Kingdom, as it simultaneously reflects the historic role of the Commandery of the Faithful, the faithfulness of the Moroccan people to the prophetic heritage, and Morocco’s commitment to tolerance and dialogue on a global scale.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the minister noted that Morocco’s Sovereigns, as Commanders of the Faithful, perpetuated the Prophet’s message, ensuring that religion remains a beacon of justice, mercy, and solidarity. By defending the sacred character of the Prophet’s message, the Alaouite Kings, the minister added, not only preserved Morocco’s religious and cultural heritage, but also projected Islam’s universal values on the regional and international scenes.
Underscoring the commitment of His Majesty the King, Commander of the Faithful, in keeping with His Ancestors’ tradition, the minister pointed out that the Sovereign requested that the grand and solemn event that the world is experiencing this year be celebrated in a fitting manner. While highlighting the actions outlined in the Royal Letter addressed on September 15, 2025, to the Supreme Council of Ulemas to honor this celebration, Bourita emphasized that these actions could serve as a reference and inspiration for other actors involved in this historic commemoration.
On this occasion, the Royal Letter has been distributed, in the four languages (Arab, French, English and Spanish), to the UN member states taking part in the event. Bourita also highlighted the Kingdom’s international commitment, through benchmark initiatives such as the Rabat Action Plan, the Declaration of Marrakech and the 9th Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations in Fez.
The minister also underscored the role of Moroccan institutions, including the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams, Morchidines and Morchidates and the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, as institutions that promote a moderate Islam. The Moroccan people, under the leadership of the Commandery of the Faithful, have always revered and defended with respect and perseverance the Prophet’s message, making it the very heart of their spiritual, cultural, and intellectual life, he recalled.
This devotion, the minister maintained, has been manifested not only through worship and prayer, but also through constant care for the Holy Quran, the sciences of Hadith, and the development of Sufi traditions centered on love for the Messenger of God. Bourita also stressed that Morocco’s commitment to the values of tolerance is accompanied by a categorical rejection of attacks against the symbols of Islam, whether it be the desecration of the Holy Quran or caricatures of the Prophet. This also implies a firm stance against any act of discrimination against other religions, he said.
He concluded that this deep devotion, so deeply rooted in Moroccan culture, gives this celebration its deepest meaning, connecting the past to the present and extending the values of compassion, justice, and faith into the future.
