President Tebboune’s Visit to Italy Marks New Chapter in Historical Ties, Strategic Partnership

Rome: The official visit of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Italy marks a new milestone in consolidating the historical ties between Algeria and Italy, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership. The visit included co-chairing the 5th High-Level Algerian-Italian Intergovernmental Summit with Giorgia Meloni, President of the Italian Council of Ministers.

According to Algeria Press Service, President Tebboune emphasized that his visit constituted a significant step in the ongoing work to strengthen and expand the partnership between the two friendly nations. He expressed confidence that the summit’s outcomes would open broad perspectives for their strategic partnership, reflecting the depth of their historical relations.

President Tebboune highlighted Algeria’s economic achievements and identified Italy as a key partner in supporting Algeria’s economic momentum. Meloni, in turn, praised President Tebboune’s competence and affirmed that relations between the two countries continue to grow stronger.

In terms of energy cooperation, Meloni stated that Italy aspires to become a distribution hub for energy in Europe through its strategic partnership with Algeria. The visit concluded with the signing of several partnership agreements, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Sonatrach and ENI, and MoUs in agriculture, fishing, and food processing.

Additional agreements included a cinematographic co-production agreement, mutual recognition of driving licenses, and MoUs in postal services, telecommunications, and the protection of rights for people with special needs. Agreements were also signed in the areas of relief and firefighting, search and rescue at sea, and counter-terrorism.

A notable agreement was signed between Invitalia and the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), alongside a joint declaration on defense cooperation, marking a comprehensive enhancement of bilateral ties.
