Algiers: President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the Council of ministers’ meeting he chaired on Sunday, ordered amendments to the traffic law to facilitate the work of judicial and security authorities, the Council said in a statement.
According to Algeria Press Service, the President instructed the government to ensure that the traffic law amendments include facilitating the tasks of the judiciary and security services to undertake and implement appropriate legal procedures. This directive was issued following a presentation on new provisions in the traffic bill.
The President commended the current bill’s measures aimed at reducing traffic accidents. The bill addresses the entire traffic management chain, including driving schools, drivers, all vehicle types, and oversight bodies. The statement highlighted that the effectiveness of the new traffic law is attributed to over 50 new measures within its 193 articles.
The President emphasized the importance of establishing court-appointed sworn agents to inspect vehicles and investigate traffic accidents. This initiative aims to prevent document fraud and false reporting in technical and procedural records.
Furthermore, the President instructed the government to institute regular and random medical tests for all types of transport drivers to check their fitness to drive. He also suggested reducing legally mandated driving distances between rotating drivers to enhance safety.
Additionally, the President advocated for providing security control officers with technological equipment for electronic payment of fines, drug testing, and cargo weight monitoring systems at security checkpoints.
