President Tebboune Offers Condolences on Passing of Filmmaker Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina

Algiers: President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has extended his heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of the mujaheed and renowned filmmaker and producer, Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina, who passed away at the age of 95.

According to Algeria Press Service, President Tebboune expressed his profound sadness upon learning about the passing of Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina. The President highlighted Lakhdar-Hamina’s significant contributions to world cinema, particularly through his celebrated work, “Chronique des ann©es de braise” (Chronicle of the Years of Fire), which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. This film, marking its fiftieth anniversary this year, vividly portrayed the suffering of the Algerian people during the colonial era.

President Tebboune further emphasized Lakhdar-Hamina’s dual legacy as both a creative filmmaker of international acclaim and a proud, committed mujaheed. Through his powerful imagery and storytelling, Lakhdar-Hamina contributed to the liberation of Algeria by depicting the epic struggles of the Algerian Revolution.

In his message of condolence, President Tebboune extended his sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased, the revolutionary community, and the Algerian people. He also prayed for Almighty Allah to grant mercy to the departed, welcome him into paradise, and provide solace to his loved ones and the nation. The President concluded with the words, “To Allah we belong, and to Him we return.”
