Boumerdes: The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, inaugurated the ‘Cap Djinet 2’ seawater desalination plant in Boumerdes province, with a daily production capacity of 300,000 cubic meters.
According to Algeria Press Service, the inauguration ceremony featured prominent figures, including the Deputy Minister to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (PNA), General Sad Chanegriha. Also in attendance were the Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Brahim Merad, and the Minister of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal, along with officials from national companies and local authorities responsible for the project’s implementation.
During the ceremony, President Tebboune received a comprehensive presentation on the progress and implementation stages of the infrastructure, which spans an area of 18 hectares. The plant will supply drinking water to the inhabitants of Boumerdes province and several neighboring provinces.
This initiative is part of the national program initiated by President Tebboune to construct five large seawater desalination plants in the provinces of El Tarf (Koudiet Eddraouche), Bejaia (Tighremt-Toudja), Boumerdes (Cap Djinet), Tipasa (Fouka), and Oran (Cap Blanc). Each plant has a daily production capacity of 300,000 cubic meters, with a total investment of nearly $2.4 billion.
These projects, achieved in record time through national expertise and advanced technologies, aim to strengthen water security and meet the drinking water needs of citizens. They reflect Algeria’s significant strides in enhancing its water security.
