President Tebboune Directs Draft for Wage and Unemployment Benefit Increase

Algiers: The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has instructed the Minister of Finance to draft a proposal aimed at raising the National Minimum Wage and unemployment benefits. This directive was issued during the Council of Ministers meeting chaired by President Tebboune on Sunday.

According to Algeria Press Service, the President has also mandated an investigation into the recent forest fires that erupted simultaneously across various provinces last weekend. In addition to addressing these urgent matters, the Council of Ministers approved the elevation of eleven administrative districts in the High Plateaus and southern regions to full provincial status.

During the same meeting, President Tebboune announced plans to commence the exploitation of the Gara Djebilet iron ore in the first quarter of 2026. This initiative aims to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce the reliance on imports gradually. Additionally, the President confirmed that the railway line connecting Tindouf and B©char will become operational in January 2026.
