President Tebboune Chairs Council of Ministers Meeting Addressing Judiciary, Water Security, and African Startup Conference

Algiers: President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, led a Council of Ministers meeting on Sunday, focusing on key national issues. The meeting addressed the draft organic law concerning the judiciary’s status, the establishment of seawater desalination plants, and preparations for the 4th African Startup Conference.

According to Algeria Press Service, the Council of Ministers approved the draft organic law on the judiciary’s status, fulfilling a commitment made by President Tebboune to magistrates during the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 judicial year. The law emphasizes the social welfare of judges, particularly in terms of retirement and housing benefits. Additionally, it mandates that newly graduated judges undergo a regulated field training period before assuming their roles. The government is also directed to adopt specialized judicial poles to enhance the justice system through advanced on-the-job
training for judges.

In response to water security concerns, the Council approved the construction of three seawater desalination plants in Chlef, Mostaganem, and Tlemcen provinces, each with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day. President Tebboune highlighted the importance of addressing drought effects and instructed the preparation of scientific studies to understand actual water consumption and regional rainfall variations. These studies aim to prevent potential environmental issues such as groundwater depletion. Immediate repairs of water leakage sources were also mandated to protect national water reserves.

The meeting also emphasized preparations for the upcoming 4th African Startup Conference. President Tebboune stressed the event’s significance in empowering African youth and fostering communication among young people across African countries. The conference aims to build on the outcomes of the Intra-African Trade Fair, with the President urging for measures to ensure its su
ccess.

The session concluded with the Council approving decisions on appointments and dismissals in senior government positions.
