Algiers: The President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, presided over a Council of Ministers meeting focused on a new bill concerning trust services for electronic transactions and electronic identification. The meeting also covered presentations on strategic agricultural projects’ electrification and new traffic code provisions, as stated in a communiqué from the Council of Ministers.
According to Algeria Press Service, the President praised the new traffic bill, which introduces over 50 measures across 193 articles aimed at reducing traffic accidents by addressing the entire traffic management and enforcement system. This includes driving schools, drivers, vehicle categories, and oversight mechanisms. The President instructed the government to ensure that the traffic law amendments facilitate legal procedures and include court-appointed agents to prevent fraud in traffic documents. d the use of technological equipment for traffic enforcement were also emphasized.
The meeting also highlighted the progress in connecting agricultural projects to the power grid. The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy reported the electrification of over 100,000 farms and the provision of energy to strategic projects in collaboration with international partners. President Tebboune stressed the importance of the north-south electrical interconnection project and suggested exporting surplus electricity to Europe or Africa.
In agriculture, the President urged immediate importation of harvesting and planting equipment and called for new legislation to organize the sector strategically. Additionally, the Council approved a bill on electronic transactions and a presidential decree to establish a WIPO external office in Algeria.
