Addis Ababa: The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is currently taking part in the 38th ordinary session of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Summit in Addis Ababa.
According to Algeria Press Service, the two-day summit, held in the presence of representatives of many international and regional organizations, will discuss the payment of compensation to Africans, a concrete step towards addressing historical issues, and the mass atrocities against Africans and people of African descent.
The participants will also discuss a number of initiatives to address the historical issues resulting from colonization, slavery, and systemic discrimination, specifically focusing on historical recognition, financial compensation, land restitution, cultural preservation, political reforms, international responsibility, and community empowerment.
On Friday, the president of the Republic chaired the 34th Summit of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), during which he announced that Algeria will provide a voluntary contribution of one million dollars in support of the mechanism.
