Algiers: The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, underscored the importance of revising the national legal framework to secure citizens’ rights and freedoms while presiding over the opening of the new judicial year (2025-2026). This initiative also aims to bolster indivisible human rights.
According to Algeria Press Service, President Tebboune highlighted the introduction of new legal texts and the comprehensive revision of existing laws, aligning with his commitment to maintain ethical standards in public life and combat corruption. These efforts, he noted, are crucial to safeguarding national identity and cultural values.
The President emphasized that the primary objective of these legal reforms is to directly benefit citizens by ensuring their rights and freedoms. This includes adapting institutions to strengthen human rights and creating a conducive environment for legal system adaptation in response to technological and socioeconomic advancements in the country.
President Tebboune also po
inted out the necessity of adapting laws to the nation’s rapid economic development, particularly in the knowledge economy. He cited specific legislative areas such as the prevention and repression of narcotics trafficking, combating money laundering and terrorism financing, and protecting personal data.
The new code of criminal procedure was also discussed, with the President noting its role in enhancing judicial efficiency, ensuring legal security, and facilitating access to justice. This reform is intended to encourage investment and establish economic security foundations.
In light of the evolving economic landscape, President Tebboune stressed the need for new laws, given that a significant portion of economic transactions now occurs between private entities or involves the State. He advocated for the expansion of commercial courts to address case backlogs that contribute to perceived judicial delays.
Finally, the President reiterated the goal of legislative revision to simplify justice access, with c
omplementary texts supporting economic and commercial initiatives. He emphasized transparency and integrity, underscoring the fight against corruption as a priority, driven by the justice sector’s dedicated personnel.
