The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune granted his periodic interview to the representatives of national media, on the sidelines of the ceremony he chaired Wednesday on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day at the International Conference Center (CIC) Abdelatif Rahal (Algiers).
During this meeting, which will be broadcast later, President Tebboune affirmed his willingness to “provide the national media without exception with the necessary means,” stressing the need for journalists to organize themselves within the framework of trade union organizations.
He also stressed the importance of “showing a high sense of patriotism in writing articles and reviews,” which must serve the national interest.”
In the same context, the President of the Republic criticized the relentlessness of some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that continue to criticize Algeria and list it among the countries that do not respect freedoms.
Affirming that these are “unfounded allegations”, the Head of State assured that Algeria “believes in its children”.
Some NGOs, like “Reporters Without Borders (RSF)”, publish “rankings at the whim of their leaders”, he stressed, saying that the “only ranking to be taken into account is that of the United Nations (UN) and its bodies.
The diversity of press in Algeria is comparable to that found in developed countries, he said.
