President of the Republic chairs opening ceremony of national seminar on cyber security

The President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired the opening ceremony of the national seminar on cyber security themed “National Cyber-Security Strategy: For A Cyber-Resilient Algeria,” said Wednesday the Ministry of National Defense in a communiqué.

At the start of the opening ceremony, hosted by the Army’s National Circle in Beni Messous, the President of the Republic was welcomed by the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), Army General Said Chanegriha, where he was honored by a military formation.

In his opening address, President Tebboune assured that “national security, with its political, military, economic, societal and even technological dimensions, requires the development of an inclusive national strategy in the digital field.”

“This strategy should combine foresight and prevention of threats and vulnerabilities in cyberspace, and the protection of systems and data, as well as the promotion of a national digital citizen culture based on continuous awareness and strategic intelligence in all institutions,” he continued.

Stressing “the importance of cyber security is growing in parallel with the State’s conscious and ambitious drive to make a qualitative leap forward in the management of public affairs through the development of a well-considered digitization strategy,” the President of the Republic said that “this is a rational and sovereign choice that stems from our collective conviction that achieving the expected development momentum depends on streamlining governance, improving the quality of institutional performance, leveraging capacities and mobilizing all the resources needed to bring the new Algeria up to the level of developed countries.”

“Digitization is a major challenge for the moralization of public affairs, the fight against corruption, and the development of a new system of governance aimed at serving the country and its citizens, and achieving the general interest”, he stressed.

At the end of his address, the President of the Republic called on all stakeholders to “show responsibility and a spirit of mutual assistance in this sensitive and delicate field, which requires greater efforts to secure national information systems.”

In a speech delivered on this occasion, the Army Chief of Staff, Army General Said Chanegriha congratulated the President of the Republic “on the great diplomatic victory achieved by Algeria, elected with an overwhelming majority as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.”

The Army General stressed that “Algeria is fully aware of the importance of cyber security, which has become an imperative necessity in the face of all threats targeting the State’s sensitive and vital systems.”

He also praised “the interest shown by the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, in the mission of preserving the security of national information systems for as long as they exist.”
