National Education Minister Abdelhakim Belaabed announced Saturday in Algiers that more than 1.5 million candidates will take the national exams (BEM and Baccalaureate) in June 2023, stressing that all measures had been taken to ensure their regularity and smooth running.
[ECR] During a national conference devoted to the preparation of national examinations (2023 session) and the start of the 2023-2024 school year, Belaabed SAID that 1,590,576 candidates (schoolchildren and free) will take the Middle School Certificate (BEM) examination, scheduled for 5 to 7 June, and the Baccalaureate examination, scheduled for 11 to 15 June.
According to the minister, 800,061 candidates, 52% of whom are girls, will take the BEM exam through 2,967 examination centres and 790,515 candidates, 59% of whom are girls, will take the Baccalaureate exam through 2,674 examination centres.
Compared to the previous session, the number of candidates is on the rise, with 108,213 additional candidates for the two exams, the minister added.
On the other hand, the number of free candidates is lower than the previous session, with 9,648 fewer candidates this year, he added.
