Washington: Morocco has been reaffirmed as a “long-standing ally” and “trusted partner” to the United States in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, according to U.S. Congressman Michael Lawler. The congressman emphasized the importance of deepening this alliance to counter threats not only in the Middle East but also across North Africa.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Lawler, who chairs the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, underscored Morocco’s significant contributions to regional security. He highlighted the country’s pivotal role in military and security cooperation with the United States and other African nations.
Reflecting on the “enduring friendship” between Morocco and the U.S., Lawler recalled his visit to the Kingdom in August as the leader of a bipartisan congressional delegation. During this visit, the delegation reaffirmed U.S. recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara region.
The visit also focused on exploring
prospects for further cooperation between the two countries, as discussed during talks in Rabat with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
