Amira: Morocco has handed down heavy sentences to protesters involved in the Youth Movement. According to media reports citing judicial sources, the defendants were convicted of “arson of vehicles belonging to others,” “destruction of public and private property,” and “obstructing public roads with barricades.”
According to Algeria Press Service, the judicial sources indicated that three of the defendants received 15-year prison sentences, one was sentenced to 12 years, nine received 10 years each, and the remaining defendants were given terms ranging from three to five years.
The incidents reportedly took place in At Amira, near Agadir. Since September 27, a group of young Moroccans has been organizing peaceful gatherings throughout the country. They have been calling for reforms in the health and education sectors, demanding action against corruption, and seeking the resignation of the Makhzen government.
