Morocco Bans TPO in Nail Products due to Potential Toxic Effects

Rabat: In a press release, AMMPS warned healthcare professionals, beauty industry stakeholders, and consumers that nail polishes and gels containing TPO are now strictly prohibited.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this decision follows a thorough assessment of the available scientific data and international standards related to this substance, the agency explained. The evaluation revealed that TPO, used as a photoinitiator in certain UV-cured gels and nail polishes, presents a concerning toxicological profile.

Studies have shown that repeated exposure to this substance could pose health risks, including potential toxic effects, the source added.

In this regard, AMMPS recalls a series of actions that are now required, noting that beauty industry professionals must immediately cease using products containing TPO and ensure that they are no longer offered to customers.

Similarly, consumers are urged to carefully check the ingredients of the products they use, particularly nail polishes and gels, to
ensure their compliance with current safety standards.
