Algiers: The minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Brahim Merad, met Monday in Algiers with the president of the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, Abdulmajeed bin Abdullah Albanyan. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the Scientific Forum on the Fight against Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking, with the director general of National Police, Ali Badaoui, in attendance.
According to Algeria Press Service, the discussions centered on the cooperation between Algeria and the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. The focus was on enhancing scientific and academic activities related to security and policing, with an emphasis on combating various forms of crime, notably transborder crime.
Merad also had discussions with the regional director of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in the MENA region, Othman Belbeisi, and the chief of the IOM mission in Algeria, Veerassamy Lalini. During these discussions, the IOM officials commended Algeria’s efforts in combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking. They acknowledged the mechanisms employed by Algeria, particularly at the legal level, highlighting the law 23-04 on the prevention and fight against human trafficking.
