Rabat: His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, chaired, on Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Rabat, a Council of Ministers, according to a statement from the Spokesperson of the Royal Palace.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the meeting commenced with a presentation by Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the Budget and Chairman of the 2030 World Cup Committee. He detailed Morocco’s preparation progress for the upcoming 2030 World Cup, following the joint bid with Spain and Portugal, which was confirmed as the sole candidacy by FIFA on October 4, 2023. The bid was officially submitted to FIFA on July 29, 2024, and received a high evaluation score, indicating Morocco’s strong preparation and adherence to FIFA’s specifications.
The Council of Ministers also discussed the establishment of an expanded committee to oversee preparations for the World Cup, involving civil society, Moroccan expatriates, and African talents. This effort aims to enha
nce infrastructure, including stadium upgrades, airport expansions, and road improvements in the six host cities. Additionally, plans are in place to develop hotel and commercial infrastructure, modernize medical services, and upgrade telecommunications networks.
Furthermore, the Council approved six international conventions designed to bolster Morocco’s international relations. These include both bilateral agreements with European countries on matters like driving license recognition and combating cross-border crime, and multilateral agreements concerning aviation offences and digital cooperation.
In line with Article 49 of the Constitution, His Majesty King Mohammed VI appointed Zouhair Chorfi as Chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority. The King also instructed a reform of the authority to encompass all energy sector components, such as natural gas and new energies, aligning with international standards.
