Hakimi Reflects on National Pride During AFCON with Morocco

Rabat: “Morocco called me up when I was at the Real Madrid academy. It’s the country of my parents. I try to attend every call-up, to stay ready for everything, whenever the national team needs me,” he said in an interview on Saturday with Canal+.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, there are many matches ahead, and Hakimi is focused on being prepared for them. He expressed that hosting the AFCON in Morocco is a dream moment for the country. Hakimi emphasized his personal goal of achieving great things with the national team and highlighted the pressure of aiming to win the tournament, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with it.

The Moroccan and PSG right-back has achieved a significant milestone in his career by being nominated among the 30 contenders for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, set to be awarded on September 22. This marks the first time Hakimi has been included in this prestigious list.

During his time with PSG this year, Hakimi celebrated victories in the Champions League, the French league
title, the French Cup, and the Trophée des Champions. Additionally, he reached the finals of the Club World Cup held in the United States.
