French President’s Morocco Visit Reflects Historic Ties, Multidimensional Friendship – Lower House Speaker

Rabat – French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Morocco, at the invitation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, reflects ‘historic ties as well as deep-rooted, multi-dimensional and multi-sectoral friendship between the French Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco,’ Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami said here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the joint session of the two houses of Parliament, held on the occasion of Macron’s speech, Talbi Alami emphasized that welcoming the President of the French Republic to the Moroccan Parliament was symbolic in many respects, explaining that it was, in part, a testimony to the noble values shared by the two countries in terms of democracy, human rights, political and partisan pluralism, and commitment to the rule of law and free elections.

‘The Parliament which hosts you today is honored by relations of cooperation and dialogue established over the years, thanks to institutional twinning, with the French National Assembly and Senate, which favors sharing be
st practices, the exchange of visits and dialogue, in a context where institutional democracy is in desperate need of levers capable of strengthening and promoting the confidence of citizens,’ Lower House speaker noted.

Talbi Alami highlighted that Parliament embodies the maturity of Moroccan democracy and reforms undertaken by the Kingdom, to enshrine foundations of an authentic and grounded democratic model, governed by an advanced and liberal Constitution, which foundation is granting human rights, freedoms, pluralism and diversity, as prerequisites for progress, development and stability.

He recalled the speech delivered by His Majesty the King to the members of both Houses of Parliament at the opening of the current legislative year, where the Sovereign expressed, on His own behalf and on behalf of the Moroccan people, His most sincere thanks and gratitude to France for its unequivocal support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara, as well as for its support for the Autonomy Initiative within the framewor
k of Moroccan territorial integrity, as the sole basis for resolving this artificial regional conflict.

Talbi Alami also expressed, on behalf of the representatives of the Nation, his gratitude and appreciation to the French President for this position which enshrines historical legality, underlining that all the components of the Moroccan parliament, and through them the Moroccan people, will remember this wise position in favor of law and legality, as underlined by HM King Mohammed VI who noted that the territorial integrity of the Kingdom is a sacred and existential matter for Moroccans.
