France TV Report Sparks Controversy Over Allegations Against Algeria

Paris: In the 8 o’clock news on Monday 3 March 2025, France 2, a station of the French national public television broadcaster France TV, aired a report entitled “Algiers wants to silence its opponents.” The report was intended to investigate alleged Algerian interference in France but appeared to serve a specific political agenda.

According to Algeria Press Service, the report by France TV marks a departure from the French public media’s previous stance of not engaging in malicious media campaigns against Algeria. This contrasts with media outlets owned by Vincent Bollor©, known for supporting extremist currents on the French right.

By engaging in such reporting, France TV deviates from the journalistic standards it professes to uphold, orchestrating what appears to be a propaganda scheme. The report, titled “L’€¦‚¬„¢il du 20h,” accuses Algeria of operating on French soil to silence opponents, based on testimonies from figures of the terrorist movement MAK and marginalized activists struggling for recognition in Algerian politics.

France 2 also suggests that Algerian authorities are attempting to co-opt these opponents by lobbying the Algerian diaspora, which increasingly shows attachment to their homeland. Algeria, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has expressed a desire for all Algerians to contribute to national development, exemplified by the 2022 initiative “Lam Shaml” (bringing together) aimed at fostering dialogue and unity.

Historically, France has engaged in schemes to destabilize Algeria, including recruiting former terrorists for propaganda against the Algerian State. The recent report aligns with ongoing campaigns against Algeria amid France’s social and economic turmoil. With a public debt exceeding 3,200 billion euros and societal divisions, some political factions find it convenient to demonize Algeria to divert public attention from domestic issues.

Algeria rejects the accusations and views the report as a fabricated montage serving political agendas over truth. The underlying economic frustration stems from Algeria’s diversification of economic partners, disrupting France’s historically privileged position. Hostile media campaigns resonate with certain French politicians aspiring to presidency, often at the cost of Franco-Algerian relations.

Despite these challenges, Algeria remains focused on its future, undeterred by misinformation or manipulation. The country continues its progress toward a better future, resilient against external attempts to undermine its sovereignty.
