Egypt on Thursday decried the burning of a copy of the holy book the Quran in the Swedish capital Stockholm.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that this shameful act provokes Muslims throughout the world particularly that it has happened in the first day of Eid Al-Adha. It also contradicts values that call for respecting nations’ sanctities and foments feelings of hatred among peoples of the globe.
The ministry expressed concern toward recurrent incidents of burning the holy book, spreading Islamophobia; religions’ disdain crimes that have been happening in some European states, affirming utter rejection of such hateful practices that target religious doctrine of the Muslims.
States are ought to shoulder the responsibility to bar calls for incitement, hatred crimes, halt such practices that aim to undermine communities’ security and stability, the Egyptian foreign ministry added, calling for promotion of values such as tolerance, accepting the other and peaceful co-existence among peoples of the globe.
An ultra-extremist male burned a copy of the Quran outside Stockholm grand mosque, on Wednesday, in the latest of such recurring anti-Islam acts in Sweden and some European countries.
