Development and modernization of health sector: Algeria’s efforts highlighted

Health Minister Abdelhak Saïhi highlighted on Sunday in Geneva the efforts made by Algeria to develop and modernize the health sector, in terms of means mobilized and policy adopted, thanks to a series of reforms undertaken in this sector.

Chairing the 59th ordinary session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health, held on the sidelines of the 76th session of the World Health Assembly, Saïhi discussed the efforts made by Algeria in the field of health, through “the enshrinement of the citizen’s right to equal access to health care and free of charge,” thanks to a series of reforms undertaken in the health system.

“Algeria attaches particular importance to the health sector in terms of the means mobilized and the policy adopted, with a view to ensuring citizens’ access to quality health services, as shown by the improvement of all health indicators in our country,” the minister added.

In this regard, Saïhi stressed the principle of primacy “of prevention, particularly by bringing local health institutions closer to the citizen, by equipping them with modern equipment to serve the general interest.

In the same vein, he highlighted the role of digitization in the health sector, as well as its contribution to reducing the burden on health institutions, thanks to the electronic file and the organization of patients’ admission at the level of emergencies.”

He further stressed “the need to strengthen joint Arab action in various fields and to make the voice of Arab countries heard in international organizations through the joint address to be delivered by the Yemeni Health Minister, Qassem Mohamed Buhaibah, to the World Health Assembly, in which the health and humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories will be discussed, as well as the difficulties and challenges faced by Arab countries in the midst of conflicts and a deteriorating economic and social situation.
