Communiqué of Council of Ministers’ meeting

The President of the Republic, Supreme Leader of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired Sunday a meeting of the Council of Ministers devoted to presentations on several sectors, said a communiqué of the Council of Ministers, translated by APS as follows:

‘The President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired Sunday a meeting of the Council of Ministers devoted to presentations on the measures related to scholarships for students and teacher-researchers at the Sidi Abdellah science and technology cluster, measures to regulate and monitor import operations, and preparations underway for the production of a major film about Emir Abdelkader.

After making a presentation by the Prime Minister on the Government’s activities over the last two weeks, and following the presentations made by the ministers, the President of the Republic gave the following instructions and guidelines:

Regarding a joint presenta
tion made by the Ministers of Trade, Industry and Agriculture on shortages:

The President of the Republic witnessed a slackening attitude from some and stressed the need to step up efforts to determine responsibilities, out of loyalty to the missions assigned to them in relation to the citizens, who must be the major concern of every public servant.

– He ordered the Government to radically overhaul the regulation governing the marketing of domestic products to citizens through a law establishing a system of price ceiling, via decrees, for unreasonable prices of seasonal produce.

– The President of the Republic instructed the Government and control bodies including security organs to show extreme vigilance and intensify control by placing agrifood products and medicines at the heart of priorities.

As for a presentation on the measures to regulate and follow up imports:

The President of the Republic ordered that raw materials used in production chains and key industries be imported without forbidding them.
The rest of the imports are subject to prior authorization.

– The President of the Republic affirmed that Algeria had never banned imports, nor will it do so in the future. However, it does when necessary to boost domestic production and protect financial reserves. This measure will boost the economy and preserve its stability.

Concerning the measures relating to the scholarship granted to students and teacher-researchers at the Higher Schools of Sidi Abdallah Scientific and Technology Hub:

– The Council of Ministers approved the measures related to students and teacher-researchers at the Higher Schools of Sidi Abdallah Science and Technology Hub.

– President Tebboune said this hub project was an asset for Algeria and its national security as the ultimate goal behind its implementation.

– President Tebboune affirmed the measures taken in favor of the students of this science and technology hub represented an incentive for future experts. He instructed the Higher Education minister to provide constant sup
port to these students.

– The effective involvement of the National Defense Ministry in this strategic vision to defend the country’s foundations.

As regards a presentation on preparations for the production of a major cinema project on Emir Abdelkader:

– President Tebboune issued instructions to launch an international call for tenders for the production and direction of this project to give it a universal dimension commensurate with the high symbolic value of Emir Abdelkader’s role in building contemporary Algeria, his international influence and his efforts to protect minorities throughout the world.

– The President of the Republic ordered that the way be opened up to Algerian and international cinema players, taking into account the content agreed in the specifications.

At the end of the meeting, some of the presentations on the agenda were adjourned for enrichment.
