Cairo, UN seek to scale up humanitarian aid to Sudanese, Palestinians

Egypt and the United Nations (UN) on Wednesday discussed ways of stepping up humanitarian and relief assistance to Sudanese and Palestinians residing in Egypt. This came during a meeting that brought together Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nivine Al-Kabbaj and UN Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative to Egypt Alessandro Fracassetti, the Ministry of Social Solidarity said in a press release. During the meeting, they looked into the ongoing efforts of the ministry and Egypt Red Crescent Society to back Palestinians and Sudanese people in Egypt, with Al-Kabbaj underlining commitment to offering them necessary relief and medical services, in coordination with the Health Ministry. She stressed the need to attach more attention to families and war victims who are in dire need of safe housing, food, and medical care costing more than USD 41.9 million. For his part, Fracassetti remarked that the UNDP is willing to support the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity to ensure protection and car e for Sudanese and Palestinian war victims amid the worsening humanitarian conditions in their countries. Both sides also explored joint cooperation in the context of carrying out a European Union-funded agreement aiming at promoting the ministry's institutional and human capabilities.
