Burkina Faso Seeks Guidance from Morocco’s Human Rights Council

Rabat: Burkina Faso is actively seeking to enhance its human rights standards by learning from Morocco’s National Human Rights Council (CNDH). Alida Henriette DA, speaking to the press during a delegation visit to the CNDH, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating that the Council serves as a benchmark for Burkina Faso’s efforts to achieve ‘A’ status in human rights evaluations.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Alida Henriette DA recognized Morocco’s openness to Sahel countries as an inspirational model for Burkina Faso’s National Commission on Human Rights. The week-long visit aims to bolster the Commission’s work, with DA expressing confidence that Morocco’s experts and CNDH members will offer essential support and guidance to their Burkinabe counterparts.

Amina Bouayach, President of the CNDH, noted that the Council plans to host various African national institutions until November. This initiative is designed to facilitate the exchange of data and information on human rights issues, as well as to share experiences and best practices, especially in challenging security contexts.

Bouayach, who also serves as the president of the Global Alliance for Human Rights, emphasized that the strategic objective of this initiative is to equip African national institutions with the skills and capacities necessary to achieve ‘A’ status. This achievement would enable them to effectively participate in international forums.

The visit provides an opportunity to understand the roles and practices of the CNDH, along with its pioneering experiences in Africa and internationally, particularly in transitional justice and torture prevention, Bouayach added.
