Austria summoned on Monday the Ambassador of Hungary to Vienna over the release of his country’s government convicted human smugglers lately, said the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
The Austrian Press Agency quoted Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg as saying that his government summoned the Hungarian ambassador to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain a full official clarification regarding this decision.
The Austrian Ministry of the Interior started today to tighten controls at the border between Austria and Hungary, saying that the focus will be on vehicles coming from Hungary, Romania and Serbia.
Last month, the Hungarian government issued a decree, which allows for the release of up to 700 foreign detainees convicted of people smuggling, provided they leave the country within 72 hours.
