Algiers: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has expressed his willingness to mediate between the Malian authorities and the rebel Tuareg forces in northern Mali, contingent upon an official request for intervention from Mali. The offer aims to address ongoing conflicts between the Malian government and the Coalition of Azawad Movements (CMA), a coalition of Tuareg independentists and Arab nationalists.
According to Nam News Network, the conflict in Mali has persisted since 2023, following Mali’s military junta’s withdrawal from an Algerian-negotiated peace agreement. The withdrawal came after the CMA clashed with government forces and Russian Africa Corps mercenaries, previously known as Wagner. President Tebboune emphasized Algeria’s stance against the presence of mercenaries along its 1,400 km border with Mali, despite maintaining strong diplomatic ties with Russia.
