Algeria Targets Five Medals at Deaflympics in Tokyo

Rabat: Algeria is set to participate in the upcoming Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan, from November 15 to 26, with a contingent of 15 athletes competing in karate, judo, and athletics. The Algerian Deaf Sports Federation has set its sights on securing at least five medals during the event.

According to Algeria Press Service, the federation’s national technical director, Mohamed Hasnaoui, emphasized that Algeria’s involvement aims to achieve commendable results and showcase the advancement of deaf athletes on the global stage. Hasnaoui expressed confidence in the national team’s prospects, predicting the potential to win two medals in judo and three in karate. He also mentioned the possibility of qualifying for the finals in athletics.

The participation in the Deaflympics represents Algeria’s effort to bolster its presence in major international deaf sports competitions and to bring attention to the capabilities of its athletes in high-level tournaments. The national judo team comprises five judokas, including two women, while two male athletes will compete in athletics. In karate, the Algerian team features eight fighters, with two female participants.
