Algiers: Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab received the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Miado, at the ministry’s headquarters on Tuesday, in the presence of Secretary of State for Mines Karima Bekir Tafar and officials from the sector. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the current state and prospects of cooperation between Algeria and the European Union, and ways to boost it as part of the strategic dialogue on energy, especially in the areas of hydrocarbons and mining, the ministry said in a statement.
According to Algeria Press Service, the two parties discussed the progress made in energy cooperation, particularly with regard to supplying Europe with natural gas, developing fields to increase production capacity, and cooperation in areas of modern technologies to reduce emissions and carbon footprints. They also touched upon carbon capture projects, environmental protection, and the development of hydrogen within the framework of the “Southern Cor
ridor” project, which links Algeria to Europe via Italy, Germany, and Austria.
Arkab emphasized Algeria’s invitation to European companies to enhance their presence in the national market by investing in the hydrocarbon and mining sectors. He noted that recent legal and regulatory reforms in these sectors provide a stimulating and transparent investment climate that facilitates partnerships and encourages foreign investors. The talks between the two parties, according to the statement, also addressed investment opportunities.
Miado expressed his satisfaction with the level of strategic dialogue between Algeria and the European Union in the field of energy. He highlighted the growing interest of European companies in the Algerian market and commended Algeria’s role as a reliable partner in ensuring European energy security. The ambassador also conveyed the European Union’s interest in fostering cooperation in green and blue hydrogen production and the exploitation and conversion of strategic minerals to serv
e industries, especially those related to renewable energy.
