Algiers: In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of National Defence categorically denied misleading reports and unfounded allegations circulated by certain media outlets and paid websites known for their bias. These sources have spread false and baseless claims alleging that Algeria has created mercenary units operating in the Sahel region.
According to Algeria Press Service, the Ministry emphasized that these reports are part of a deliberate smear campaign aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the People’s National Army (PNA) and Algeria’s image on both regional and international stages. The statement criticized certain media outlets and websites for fabricating narratives and scenarios, asserting that these claims of mercenary unit creation in the Sahel are entirely fictional and manufactured by entities with questionable motives.
The Ministry of National Defence strongly rejected these accusations, labeling them as part of an insidious agenda by entities hostile to Algeria. The statement highlighted that these efforts are intended to destabilize the country, malign the reputation of Algerian state institutions, and manipulate public opinion. The Ministry assured that the public is now well aware of the duplicity of these sources and remains undeceived by such falsehoods.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and stability, the Ministry underscored that the People’s National Army operates in strict compliance with the Constitution and laws of Algeria, guided by principles of good neighbourliness, respect for state sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs. The statement emphasized Algeria’s dedication to dialogue, negotiation, and the promotion of peaceful solutions in the Sahel region.
