Algiers: The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, gave an official welcome to the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic on Tuesday.
According to Algeria Press Service, the two Presidents listened to the Algerian and Somali national anthems before reviewing formations of various forces of the People’s National Army, who rendered military honors to them. This formal ceremony marked the beginning of the Somali President’s official visit to Algeria.
Earlier in the day, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud paid tribute at the Martyrs’ Sanctuary in Algiers, honoring the memory of the martyrs of the National Liberation Revolution. His visit to this significant site underscored the shared historical struggles between the two nations.
During his visit, the Somali President also toured the National Mujahid Museum. Here, he was briefed on the different periods of Algerian history, with a particular focus on the country’s liberation struggle. This visit provided President Mohamud with insights into the historical context that has shaped Algeria’s national identity.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Algiers on Monday for this official visit, aimed at strengthening the bilateral relations between Somalia and Algeria.
