UNESCO Adopts Four Major Resolutions in Support of Palestine

Samarkand: Four major resolutions in support of Palestine were unanimously adopted at the 43rd General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as reported by the Palestinian news agency Wafa on Sunday.

According to Algeria Press Service, one of the resolutions puts forward an urgent action plan for the Gaza Strip, aimed at mitigating the impact of the current situation on education and culture. It includes the creation of a dedicated account for voluntary contributions, active monitoring of the necessary measures, and direct UNESCO involvement in their implementation, the source stated.

The second resolution concerns occupied Al-Quds, featuring a specific plan to preserve the cultural heritage of the Old City. The other two resolutions focus on the protection and support of educational and cultural institutions in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the continuation of the educational programs of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Hailing these decisions, Ali Abu Zuhri, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and president of the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, described them as a “major diplomatic victory for Palestine and concrete support for its cultural and educational rights,” according to Wafa.
