New york: Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita emphasized the nation’s accomplishments in migration policy during an event themed “Migration at a Crossroads: A Strategic Dialogue for a Changing World.” Bourita underscored Morocco’s strategic vision guided by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Africa’s Leader on Migration.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bourita highlighted Morocco’s pivotal initiatives, including the African Migration Agenda, endorsed by the African Union as a continental framework, and the African Migration Observatory in Rabat, which provides critical data to shape informed public policies.
The minister reiterated Morocco’s ongoing efforts to implement the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, adopted in Marrakesh in 2018, and the country’s longstanding partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which has persisted for over two decades.
Bourita also articulated Morocco’s comprehensive understanding of migration’s complexities, advocating for an approach centered on solidarity, shared responsibility, and collaborative solutions.
He pointed out the success of international cooperation, notably the Morocco-Spain partnership, illustrating a practical and effective approach. Bourita advocated for promoting the Champion Countries of the Global Compact to expedite its implementation globally.
The minister suggested proposals for establishing robust migration governance, emphasizing the enhancement of data and knowledge through interconnected observatories, the promotion of successful migration experiences, and the increased mobilization of resources.
He concluded by urging collective responsibility to transform migration into a catalyst for dialogue, solidarity, and shared prosperity.
