Al-haouz: Officials said reconstruction and rehabilitation work in the province has reached 91.33% and nearly 24,000 homes have been rebuilt according to technical and architectural standards.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ighighi told MAP that “all tents set up after the earthquake to shelter victims have been permanently dismantled.” He added that the completion rate is expected to reach 93% by the end of September and 96% within the following two months. He said only 4% of affected households have not yet begun rebuilding their homes.
Ighighi said the cases that have not started rebuilding are either linked to inheritance disputes or to families who refused to rebuild despite having received the first installment of state financial aid. He said local authorities invited those families to begin construction like other beneficiaries and that necessary legal measures have been taken against them.
Ighighi recalled that preliminary operations conducted by the steering and monitoring committee incl
uded rescue efforts, a census of affected populations, the clearing of over 23,500 collapsed homes, and the issuance of building permits. He said those operations proved complex because of the rugged terrain of the province and required special equipment, heavy machinery, and human resources, noting that most homes are located in hard-to-reach areas.
Ighighi praised coordination among local authorities, engineers, contractors, and local associations, and said that coordination made it possible to achieve the reported reconstruction and rehabilitation results.
Several beneficiaries told MAP they were relieved to return to their homes and to resume economic and social life after moving into rebuilt houses.
Issuance of building permits followed criteria under the technical supervision of architects and specialized engineering firms and was based on a detailed specification document that complies with scientific and seismic-resistant standards and respects the architectural and cultural specificities of the re
gion.
