Rome: The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed Wednesday in Rome that his visit to Italy builds upon the exemplary relations between the two friendly countries and represents a key step toward deepening and expanding their partnership.
According to Algeria Press Service, in a joint press statement with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President Tebboune said that his official visit to Italy represented ‘a new milestone in the Algeria-Italy exemplary relations’ and ‘a major step forward in the ongoing work and coordination to strengthen and expand the partnership between the two friendly countries.’
With regard to the 5th High-Level Algerian-Italian Intergovernmental Summit, the President of the Republic noted that it served to ‘implement practical measures demonstrating a deep-rooted political commitment to strengthening our longstanding relations and setting up additional pathways for cooperation in promising sectors such as water resources, sustainable agriculture, industry, transportation, and cultural and scientific diversity.’
This session also served to ‘underscore the reliable relationship with Italy, a friendly country, in the fields of energy and renewable energy,’ the President of the Republic added.
He also called on the international community to ‘shoulder its political and moral responsibility to end the genocide and ongoing violations against the Palestinian people.’
‘In this respect, we have expressed our concern about the overall situation in the Middle East, which requires urgent efforts to prevent escalation and instability in the region,’ he said.
The talks also provided an opportunity to ‘exchange views on the situation in the Sahel and explore ways to strengthen joint efforts to ensure security and development, while fighting terrorism in this critical region,’ the President of the Republic said.
Regarding the Western Sahara question, the President of the Republic stated: ‘We have reaffirmed our joint support for the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy in order to reach a just political solution, in line with international law, enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination.’
The President of the Republic also expressed his conviction that the results of this summit, both the sectoral agreements signed and the conclusions of the Algerian-Italian Business Forum, ‘open up broad prospects for the strategic and exemplary partnership between Algeria and Italy, mirroring the depth of historical relations and deep-rooted friendship ties between the two countries.’
