University Cooperation, A Catalyst For African Regional Integration – Minister

Rabat: Speaking at the opening of the 16th Quadrennial General Conference, organized by the Association of African Universities (AAU) at the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P), El Midaoui highlighted that the Kingdom of Morocco considers African cooperation in higher education, scientific research, and innovation to be a strategic lever for developing the human capital of African countries and the continent as a whole.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, higher education, scientific research, and innovation are fundamental drivers for skills development, knowledge production, and the establishment of strong academic cooperation across the continent, he added. In this regard, the minister recalled that Morocco, backed by a clear national strategy, is making increasing investments in innovation and has become a credible scientific actor in Africa and the Mediterranean.

‘Morocco’s higher education and research sector is highly responsive and adaptable, notably by supporting several key national projects initiated under the aegis of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and by training professionals in high-demand fields such as healthcare, digital technologies, and education,’ he maintained.

Similarly, he noted that the quality of the Moroccan university system is reflected in the employability of graduates, particularly in the regulated sector, including those working abroad, as well as in the growing attractiveness of Moroccan universities to international students, particularly from Africa.

El Midaoui also noted that the choice of Rabat to host the 16th Quadrennial General Conference was not insignificant, given that the AAU, now considered the voice of African universities at the international level, was founded in the Moroccan capital in 1967.
