Geneva: The National Agency for Health Security (ANSS), chaired by Professor Kamel Sanhadji, is participating in the 78th World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO), held in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme “One World for Health.”
According to Algeria Press Service, the assembly, which is scheduled from May 19 to 27, 2025, will see the participation of Professor Kamel Sanhadji as part of a high-level official delegation representing Algeria. This session is considered a significant step in strengthening global health security, with the anticipated adoption of an international agreement on pandemics. This agreement is a result of extensive multilateral negotiations, leading to a consensus among member states.
The session will address several priority health issues, including the effects of climate change on health, mental health, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and the fight against smoking. These topics illustrate the wide range of challenges faced by public health policymakers.
The pandemic
agreement aligns with global prevention efforts, supporting active public health policies against tobacco, obesity, pollution, and trans fats. The discussions will also focus on the WHO’s initiatives to develop universal health coverage, strengthen human capacities, improve medicine supply chains, and inaugurate the Global Health Academy for training health skills internationally. Additionally, there will be efforts to enhance the WHO’s response to health emergencies worldwide.
